Professor Muhammad Yunus and the Grameen Bank have been awarded the 2006 Nobel Peace Prize.

This award is in recognition of the contributions that Professor Yunus and the Grameen Bank have made to ending poverty in Bangladesh and around the world.

"for their efforts to create economic and social development from below", Nobel Prize Committee.
